The British Touring Car Championship puts out its lights for another year in what's been a fantastic season for Adrian Flux Subaru Racing, taking a staggering total of 18 podiums, 7 of them on the top step courtesy of team drivers Plato, Cole and their newest addition, Sutton.
Sutton joined the Hertfordshire-based team for their 2017 challenge and has missed out on a podium just once since Round 4 at Oulton Park, putting on an impressive show of skilled driving in his Manufacturer-backed Subaru Levorg.
Sutton had been leading the drivers table for a while and headed into last weekend’s final round with a 10-point lead. A solid start in Race 1 saw Ash extend his lead, only for a fast-charging Turkington to close the gap by taking the win in Race 2, forcing the title to go to the wire in the last race, of the last round! Dramatics in Race 3 saw Ash's competition retire after a coming together on lap 2 leaving Turkington’s BMW with rear suspension damage, confirming Sutton as the newly-crowned British Touring Car Champion in the process - the youngest since 1966.
“Nothing can top this, nothing at all. I feel sick inside because of the buzz! I can’t thank everyone enough, Adrian Flux Subaru Racing have done me so proud this year.”
– Ash Sutton, 2017 BTCC Champion
The Championship winning Levorg houses the mountune designed and built turbocharged 2.0L Boxer engine, in use for only its second year since conception, following an approach to mountune Racing’s Technical Director, David Mountain by BMR Team Manager, and industry friend, Alan Cole.
The championship victory also marks a return to the top step of the BTCC for mountune Racing, powering a championship-winning team to the ultimate prize in British Motorsport for the first time since Robb Gravett lifted the same trophy back in 1990.
"Thanks go to mountune for the track support this season. I know it's been a huge team effort with countless hours put into the development of what’s now a championship winning engine” - Warren Scott, Adrian Flux Subaru Racing Team Principle
A massive well done to Ash and all the team on their Championship win from all at mountune.
