Round 1 of the SINOPEC 2018 Chinese Touring Car Championship (CTCC) got underway last weekend, held at China's F1 circuit, Shanghai International.
This year's team sees a returning 4-car driver line-up with Rainey He, Martin Cao, Andy Yan and Zhang DaSheng all behind the wheel of a mountune-powered Ford Focus in the Super Production 2.0T class
Round 1 qualifying saw Cao set the first benchmark early on with a time of 2:09.679, but unfortunately, after others beat his time, Cao lined the grid in third, ahead of team-mate Andy Yan with DaSheng and He in 7th and 8th respectively.
Race 1 started well but was red-flagged immediately after the rain meant a number of cars crashed out at Turn 1, with Andy Yan retiring from his first round of the year. After a lengthy delay, the race resumed with just 3 laps remaining and Cao worked hard to hold his position, taking P3 and his team's first podium step of the series. Teammate DaSheng took 4th and He crossed the line in 6th.
Race 2 also saw an incident on the first lap but at the restart, a quick move from Cao saw him follow the leader through the pack to take P2, just one second behind the winner with He behind in 5th.
2018 sees the Ford Racing Development (FRD) Team compete in their 13th year in the CCTC, after the establishment of Changan Ford Racing Team back in 2006. Our mountune designed and built turbocharged EcoBoost engine powers all four of the Ford Focus 2.0T hatchbacks, and contributes to the strong package producing these results, that is car, team and driver.
We congratulate the team on their wins in Round 1 and look forward to seeing them back in action at Zhuhai International Circuit.
